Today, Parley for the Oceans x Adidas are releasing three new UltraBOOST styles. Each shoe is made from 11 recycled plastic bottles recovered from marine environments.

We hear about plastics ending up in the stomachs of whales and fish and causing their death all the time. Everyone knows that plastics endanger our oceans, our eco systems and the entire planet, but the severeness of the situation can be kind of hard to grasp. Did you know that the oceans generate every second breath that we take? If the oceans die, we will too.

Researchers say that the plastic pollutions will have put a stop to commercial fishing by 2048, and that the eco systems of all the world’s coral reefs will be dead by 2025. Also, in only 6-16 years, the larger part of all ocean life will be extinct. This is of course terrifying and mind-numbing facts—an alarm clock screaming at us to wake up! So, what can we do?

“Adidas x Parley has set a goal for one million pairs of shoes to be made in 2017—that’s 11 million bottles rescued from sea”

For one, we can support the organizations that are actually doing something about it, like Parley for the Oceans. They are actively working to raise awareness around the devastating state of our oceans, and the consequences we’re facing because of it. Through actions like the Ocean Plastic Program, they’re trying to stop plastics from continuously polluting our oceans.

In 2016, Adidas and Parley for the Oceans released a limited edition of their first pair of sneakers made from recycled ocean plastic. This year, they launched Parley Swim—a collection of swimwear made from ocean plastic—and a limited edition Adidas by Stella McCarney x Parley UltraBOOST X sneaker. Today, on 10 May 2017, three new running styles are released in store: UltraBOOST, UltraBOOST X and UltraBOOST Uncaged.

The new UltraBOOST sneakers are inspired by “the beauty of the oceans”, and features laces, heel webbing, heel lining and sock liner covers made from approximately 11 PET bottles recovered and upcycled from marine environments. Actually, Adidas x Parley has set a goal for one million pairs of shoes to be made in 2017—that’s 11 million bottles rescued from sea.
