On our minds: Kering’s Burak Cakmak to Parons School of Design
Burak Cakmak is said to be excited by the challenge of translating his 15-year experience of corporate sustainability into education.
On our minds is Parsons School of Design and their latest push into sustainability with new hire Burak Cakmak. Taking on the role as dean of fashion at the New School, former (and first, ever) director of corporate sustainability at Kering Cakmak will enter his premiere venture into academia. Having implemented sustainability strategies at numerous luxury brands under the Kering umbrella and at Gap Inc. prior to that, Cakmak is said to be excited by the challenge of translating his 15-year experience of corporate sustainability into education, which will be a key focus he is bringing to Parsons. The new dean is also looking to collaborate with other fashion schools to better define fashion education and address the industry-wide issues on a global level, as graduates “have the biggest opportunity to do things differently”.
