"Fruitleather” is made from different combinations of fruits.

Scrap vegetable tanned leather, vegetable leather has been invented! Not unlike animal leather, the “fruitleather” is made from different combinations of fruits (such as the bag pictured, made from a blend of mangoes) and has slight variances in texture depending on the produce used. The invention, developed by a group of students from Rotterdam in response to the city’s issues with food waste, has already caught the interest of commercial actors making leather car seats and we hope to see alternatives like these replace some of the extensive applications of leather in the future.
