YOOX’s documentary unfolds at least some of the mystery behind Martin Margiela.

On our minds is YOOX’s new documentary on Martin Margiela. The Artist is Absent: A Short Film On Martin Margiela unfolds at least some of the mystery behind the Belgian fashion designer renowned for his de/reconstruction of garments and anonymous criticism on the obsession with money and exposure in fashion. The short film features commentary from fashion heavyweights such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Suzy Menkes along with well-curated footage from the shows and close-ups of the garments highlighting their clever construction. We love Margiela for his uncompromised integrity, consistent aesthetics and unconventional material choices and the label’s recurring artisanal collections made from upcycled fabrics and objects is our permanent couture season highlight.
