You may remember our lowdown on the fresh look over at Institut finlandais in Paris. Later this month, in conjunction with Design Forum Finland, the laureate of their Young Designer of the Year 2018 prize, Antrei Hartikainen, will exhibit an organic body of work taking us from conceptualisation to final form, using wood as his material of choice.

Hartikainen’s functional products, made of maple, cherry and walnut are well balanced, quietly delightful. Plopping your keys on the surface of the moon-inspired Plato floating shelf, which doubles as a serving platter, or surprising guests with the fullness of the Kupu spoons pour a little charm into daily life.

Transformative and delicate, these works in wood, a mix of sculpture, furniture and objects champion modern Nordic carpentry. The Carte Blanche exhibition will go beyond the solo works; a collaboration introducing wood to glass with fellow Finnish award-winning artist Katriina Nuutinen combine aesthetics with functionalism, together they explore light and shadow.

‘Carte Blanche à Antrei Hartikainen’ will be on view at Institut finlandais from January 10th to April 13th 2019. You can find Antrei here and follow here #carteblancheantreihartikainen #ifgalerie
