More and more fashion brands are looking to make a change and manifest their sustainable commitment by introducing garments made from upcycled ocean plastics. GANT is the next brand out.

The Swedish fashion and lifestyle brand, known for its America East Coast heritage, is adding a new, sustainable dimension to their collection of shirting. As a part of the GANT Beacons Project, that aims to celebrate GANT’s marine legacy and preserve the oceans for future generations, they’re now launching four smart yet functional Tech Prep shirts made (only in part) from upcycled ocean plastics.

The initiative is a collaboration with SEAQUAL—a brand that makes a 100% recycled polyester fibre from PET plastic waste collected at the bottom of the ocean. More than 1500 fishermen from the Spanish Mediterranean coast are involved in the project, collecting the huge amounts of garbage that gets caught in their fishing nets, and bringing it back to land where it gets sorted and sent off for recycling.

The Tech Prep shirts come in a breathable cotton and recycled polyester fabric with quick drying properties—making them perfect for an active lifestyle. The buttons and packaging are made from recycled materials as well. Read more about the two women’s and two men’s styles here.
