Emma ponders a new kitchen
I am planning how to best remodel our kitchen. I’ll show you some pictures soon, but I want to hear your thoughts! Maybe you have a few do’s and don’ts to share when it comes to kitchens? For example is it bad to have light-colored stone for the worktops? This is something I am pondering. The picture is from the kitchen in my friend Amna’s home, one of the warmest, most loving kitchens I know – and one I’ll definitely be taking inspiration from!

Ninna: I have had both, and I prefer so much the dark ones, I have now. Both times the cabinets have been white, and if the cabinets are a light color, the dark tops give a good balance. And don't choose the glossy ones! Also make sure that the tabletops are a couple of cm further out that the lower cabinets, so it will be easy wiping crumbs etc off without spilling on the floor. I didn't pay attentiont to that during the attempt to make my first dream kitchen, and it was so annoying! Also make sure that the workspace is high enough. Drawers in the baseboard (på dansk: sokkel) are also nice for storage, but quite expensive. Have fun!

Anett: Put the dishwasher in working height, not on the floor.

Lilly: On counters - I've been surprised at how much I've loved the black countertops our new little place came with! They're heat-resistant (so I can't leave marks when I put the kettle or a pie plate down straight out of the oven, apologies to my last few white/light countertops), super easy to clean, and everything looks good in contrast. I'm not sure what type of stone it's made of, but it's sparkly and dark and delightful.
