At least for me

T-shirt and jeans, Filippa K. Belt, Lindex. Painting, Ellen Thesleff.

The sun is still shining here in Stockholm so let us all put on something white to celebrate! That is actually a great trick to light up your day. Wearing white brightens your mood, it works on me. One of my goals this week is to stop by the Sven Harrys art museum to se the Ellen Thesleff exhibition. Have any of you been?

Recycled and reused

Last night we hosted a event with Gina Tricot to talk about sustainable fashion. Last night we also collected 125 pair of old jeans that will now be recycled and reused. Big thank you for dropping by and handing in your old denim, don´t forget that you can always hand in any clothes for recycling at any of their stores. At the event we also talked about how to be more sustainable when it comes to fashion. My best advice to be a little bit more sustainable is to take care of the clothes you already have and to invest in pieces that are of high quality and timeless design.

Again thank you so much for dropping by!!!

What is hanging in my closet

This is how Emma Elwin gets her inspiration in the morning.

I have made a little moodboard that I have put up on my wardrobe door. All the clothes that the people in the pictures are wearing are similar to my own garment. I am hoping that these pictures will help me to be a bit more creative those mornings when you have a wardrobe full of clothes but nothing to wear.

Emma Elwin is having a big wardrobe clean out, see all the items for sale on Tradera TREND today.

Before the baby I have decided to clean out all the things I haven’t worn in the past year to make some room in the apartment. All the items for sale are gathered HERE!

Emma Elwin is busy as a bee preparing for the baby.

At the moment nesting is taking up most of my free time. Feels great to get this things done now before the pregnancy brain kicks in. This past week in particular, I have found tiny jumpsuits for the baby, warm sweaters and socks. Don’t get me stated on baby socks, I mean are there any thing cuter than teeny tiny baby socks? All of these things I have found secondhand for almost no money at all. Can’t wait to show you all of my finds.

Emma Elwin is feeling more focused than ever.

You guys would not believe how productive I have been today. All the things on my todo list are crossed over and I only have one unread email. I don’t know if this super focus I have at the moment is a part of the pregnancy, but I love it! Something I haven’t had the time to do yet is to post something here.

This weekend has been all about painting furniture, meeting friends and celebrating my moms birthday. It feels great to have had to days of no work to just recharge.

One of the things I painted this weekend was the crib for the baby. I found it second hand for 20 euros. The wood was untreated and had some small stains on it so it was in perfect condition to paint with my new favourite paint made from linseed oil. I still need to give it another stroke so I’ll show you the result in a couple of days! Now it’s time for to cuddle up in the sofa with Stellson.

P.s. If you are to watch on YouTube video today let it be this one with David Roberts.

Lose fitted jeans

Yesterday I realized that I could no longer button up any of my old trousers or the once I have been borrowing from my boyfriend. So I went ahead and bought two pairs of mens jeans at my favorite second hand store. It feels great to be wearing lose fitted jeans again!

Come together

Emma Elwin's apartment is finally coming together.

We have been working with the apartment now for six months and things are staring to come together. We only have some painting left to do and then to find a bookshelf and a armchair. All the furnitures in the apartment are bought second hand. Something I can truly recommend, not only can you find unique beautiful things, you also save SO much money! This lamp I got on a flea market for only 15 euros.

What makes me feel optimistic

Today I woke up with a question in my head: Why are people so quick to point out flaws in each other? I think it’s a habit that puts focus and energy on the wrong thing. If we would take that time and energy and put it to good use, such as solving an actual problem, that would take us further that standing around pointing fingers. Puh! Thank you for letting me clear the air. On days like this, when life is making you frustrated, I like to wear my favorite soft blue shirt, the color blue make me feel optimistic or something.

For the future

To make the world a better place

It is so easy to just run through life and never stop to take a second to contemplate. To look back is not my strong side, I rather plan for the future. If any of you missed out on my previous post I am very happy to tell you that we are expecting a baby on the first of July! Or you know, whenever the baby feels like joining the world that is. This life changing amazing thing is something that have made me think a lot about what I will leave behind for our children and their children and so on.

These last years I have made so many changes in my life, but all of a sudden I feel that I am not doing enough. What more could I do that I am not already doing? I am not the person who loves to mingle and I don’t attend a lot of events, but I am so happy that myself and Lisa had the great honor to be a part of the Global Change Award last week. The purpose for the competition was award innovations that help closing the loop for fashion, you can read more about the foundation here. The key speaker, David Roberts, was amazing. He talked a lot about what we can accomplish together just by shifting our mindset. I wish you all could have been there to experience the positive spirit of all these pioneers attending, because they all agreed: we are on the right track. And everybody can make a difference! So today, I thought we could share one of the small things we do everyday to make the world a better place. I will start: I always turn the water off while I am shampooing my hair. Please let me know one thing you do to make this world a little bit better.

One more think I would like to add. Their are loads of things I do in my everyday life that are not the best choice for the environment.  One of the things that I would like to do is to spend less time on air planes and more on trains. And I truly hope that the making of these kind of air planes is not to far away.

Emma Elwin is trying to make time for some Yoga in here life.

Since we got back home I haven’t had time for anything else but work and fixing the apartment. I feel great and not stressed at all for the first time in my life. But still, I haven’t done any exercise for a month now unless you count Stella’s walks. But from the 8th of March I am going to change that! I signed up for the pregnancy yoga at Altromondo that all my friends have been telling me is suposed to be amazing. Until then I was thinking about get a Pilates ball to bump around on in front of the TV with my evening tea. Do any of you have a pilates ball? Is it one of those things you buy and then use for a week and then never again??

My first time in Amsterdam

Sweater, Filippa K. Trousers, old from Acne Studios.
Yesterday I got to spend a day in Amsterdam doing a interview with a friend and colleague about her wardrobe. You will find it in the next issue of Styleby. It was my first time in Amsterdam but definitely not my last! Loved all the canals and old houses. On today’s schedule is a meeting with the midwife, hundreds of deadlines and hopefully getting a long walk with Stella.

Kitchen Detox

Posted in Life
by Emma Elwin on 14 February, 2016

Emma Elwin is continuing her home detox, this weekend it was the kitchen's turn.

I am continuing my home detox and this weekend it was time to clean out the kitchen. The first thing I put in the sorting bin was the plastic kitchen tools, like bowls and spatulas. The stick pan I swopped to two old cast iron pots. There are not enough studies when it comes to determining whether the stick pan (teflonpanna in Swedish) is dangerous if used right. Still I feel that any product that have to contain toxics in order to work (in this case perfluorooctanoic acid) has nothing to do in a kitchen. The old cast iron pots are not only prettier that our shiny plastic looking pots, they also add some extra iron to your food. Perfect during pregnancy when you need some extra iron! Another thing I did was to switch our plastic lunch boxes to these metall ones, so far I am super happy with these new boxes and for soup I will just use a glass jar.

The future

Emma Elwin is think about the future and the responsibility we have to our planet.

This morning I found this old picture of my grandmother Antonia, she was born in Switzerland and came to Stockholm to study art. I think I have her to thank for my urge to be creative. She died when I was one year old so I never had the chans to truly know her, still in some weird way It feels like I did. I don’t know if it is the pregnancy but lately I have been think a lot about my families past and the future. I feel more that ever the responsibility we have to our children and the planet. What we will leave to the generations to come. Yesterday me and Lisa had the great honor to attend the H&M Conscious Foundation award. I have so many thoughts and feeling about what was said that I am going to share with you later on today!

Super wrinkly

My mother has always been ironing our clothes, pretty much everything got ironed. A gene she did not pass on to me. Since leaving home I have used my iron maybe teen times? I don’t even have a ironing board. I try to spray the shirt with water the day before I use it or I just wear it super wrinkly. I don’t mind a few wrinkles, I think I prefer them. I don’t really know why people are so much against a few wrinkles, both when it comes to skin and clothes?

Mommy clothes.

Since we got back from the states I only have a four pairs of trousers that still fit me. Two of them I probably won’t be able to button in a week. The thing is I don’t want to buy all these new clothes (I am still very optimistic about fitting in to my old jeans after the baby is born) but still I don’t want to wear sweatpants until Juli. Would it not be great if you could rent some maternity clothes?

Emma Elwin what's to learn a new hobby.

Since I can’t really surf at the moment I feel like I need a new hobby until the baby is born. Last August I just could not resist bring this little blouse back with me from Mexico. If there is something I really want to learn it is to learn the art of embroidering. Not only would it be a great way to relax but also imagen be able to make these kind of thing and give away as a present. Do any of you guys have embroidery as a hobby? What is the best way to get started?

Let us look back in time

Since I have been wearing my pyjamas for the past week I don’t have no fancy outfit pictures to share with you from fashion week. Instead let us look back at the fashion week before this one! I got to rent a look from Filippa K. This skirt is still on my wish lite for the spring, but with this belly I think I would have to wait quite sometime until I could actually use it. In fact most of the things I have hanging in my wardrobe does not fit at the moment. Since I don’t want to buy any new clothes I am just going to steal my boyfriends jeans and where tights until it’s warm enough to wear dresses. Do you have any good dressing advices for a mom to be?

Thank you

Natural air cleaners

Posted in Life

Emma Elwin has spent last night reading about air cleaning plants.

All of my Sunday was spent in bed with the flue and a cough that have been keeping me up all night. So I spent most of my night reading about air cleaning plants. Plants that actually clean the air in your apartment from toxics. We have one of them in our bed room window which is called mother-in-law’s tongue (Sansevieria trifasciata) and I plan to fill our entire home with these kind of plants! I you want to learn more about the subject this Ted talk is very inspiring.

Here is a list of plants that detoxes the air in your home:
The peace lily plant, Dragon-tail plan, Aralia, Yellow Butterfly Palm, Jade plant, mother-in-law’s tongue, Spider plant.
