Eternal Flame: Jonna Bergh

A pair of great classics saves your money in the long run

Jonna Bergh started her career as a music journalist but turned to the fashion world when becoming editor-in-chief at Swedish Cosmopolitan och Glamour. Nowadays, she’s the boss of magazine STYLEBY.

We ask Jonna about her Eternal Flame and she tells a story about when she ran her first half marathon in San Francisco back in 2013. She decided to reward herself afterwards with a purchase at Barneys…

”A couple of years ago I really started to rethink the way I consumed fashion. As an editor of STYLEBY I’m constantly in an environment where fashion- and beauty products surrounds me every day – it’s easy to get carried away. At the same time I started to travel a lot more than earlier, both in my work and outside it, and I needed pieces that worked for me in versatile occasions since I’m obsessed with traveling light. A black suede pump seemed to be the solution. It’s a eternal shoe model, it goes with everything from jeans, work wear to evening wear, it’s super cool and super classy at the same time. I started to really explore the market for the perfect pump shoe – and I found that Manolo Blahnik’s BB-pump is the best out there both in terms of comfort and style. Not in price though, it’s quite expensive. In October 2013 I ran my first half marathon in San Fransisco, a huge thing on my personal bucket list. I was so proud of myself! After the race, a bath and a nap I thought it was time to give my feet – the heroes of that day – a gift, so I went to Barney’s and finally bought myself a pair of black suede BB pumps. And I kid you not – it’s the most versatile shoe in my (giant) shoe closet. I can wear it to a Berlin rock club as well as at the Cannes Film Festival, I just need to pack one pair of heels when I’m traveling which is great! It’s one of my best investments ever, since I buy a lot less shoes today. Before my BB’s I was obsessed with new party shoes, and probably bought at least three pairs of expensive heels each season. Now I just don’t find the need for that since my BB’s just kill all other shoes in terms of looks. So they’re actually saving me money! And they also reminds me that I really fulfilled one of my biggest goals – that inspires me to reach the next one.”

What would be your general advice to everyone envying this thing of yours?

– Well, why don’t you fulfill a personal goal that doesn’t come easy and give yourself a pair of BB’s as a gift? You will probably find, as I did, that one pair of great classics saves your money in the long run. So it’s really a win-win!
