These past few days have been freezing in New York, but still, what a nice weekend we’ve had. I’m having such a good vibe this time around here, I don’t always love New York, but this time there’s a great energy. Yesterday we went to PS1 and listed to Masha Alekhina, Nadya Tolokonnikova and Petya Verzilov from Pussy Riot as they talked about their actions and what they meant. Masha and Nadya were super sharp and very funny, the fact that they have been imprisoned for two years was easily forgotten as they told hilarious stories about Putin refusing to put their name in his mouth and Russian police not being able to really nail them as they did Operation: Kiss Garbage which was about French kissing police offers on the street (“She kissed me?!” “And?”) And how they were happy to have encouraged the police in Sochi to make art in finding creative ways to arrest them. The jail time experience; perhaps on a deeper note; is saved for a book that’ll be released next year. Will read it.
